Diameter replaced SS7 MAP for 4G Evolved Packet Core (EPC) signaling over Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP). Because IPX roaming interconnects lacked mandatory peer authentication or message validation, attackers injecting forged Diameter `Cancel-Location-Request` (CLR) or `Insert-Subscriber-Data-Request` (IDR) messages on S6a interfaces could terminate user sessions, intercept location data, or manipulate APN configurations.
